Women’s Day 2023 of CIRCLE WING OF YOUNG FEMINIST TEAM

Embrace Equity the International Women’s day quote of 2023 is marked in the women’s day event of CIRCLE Wing of Young Feminist Team 2023 on 08th of March 2023 The children of the 30 Marginalized women headed households received learning equipment from CIRCLE to meet their needs. It is noteworthy that in Srilanka’s current economic crisis, the prices of learning equipment for school students have increased and students in rural villages are unable to afford them. Due to this it is expected that the number of dropping out of school will increase in Srilanka this coming April 2023. One of the main visions 0f the CIRCLE is to promote the educational attainments of students. Improving the future of children through the education is a one of the important objective of CIRCLE. Considering above points CIRCLE has provided learning equipment for the children of 30 women headed families of Savukady viilage (Eravurpattu DS division),Mahilavatavan,Naripulthottam villages (Manmunaiwest) as a small initiative. Discussions with legal experts

Gender Equality and Equity A discussion  with the legal experts ,stake holders  to analyze the identified problems of the young women headed households and their families during the current outbreak  of  Economic crisis,Covid-19 lockdown  and to develop training and awareness protocols A discussion held with Lawyer ,WRDS ,RDS ,WDO and women leaders of the Manmunai West DS division and Eravurpatru DS division held  on 2nd of September 2022 ,identified problems were  discussed and trainings ,awareness sessions are planned from the discussion of community leaders and relevant delivery providers.

Training and discussions on Domestic Violence ACT,Marriage ACT ,legal requirements and referrals

The training held on 12th and 26 th of November 2022 at YMCA hall. 25 young WHH participated in the training. Main objective of the training is to give awareness, knowledge on the legal requirements, Acts of Domestic Violence and Srilanka Marriage ACT while doing referrals of the cases, incidents · To feed knowledge and awareness of the legal requirements to handle the issues of the   women network going to be established and for the future sustainability of the network · Enhance the competency of the selected WHH of taking the leadership and speak out the problems with confident · Share and disseminate the knowledge, handouts of the Domestic Violence ACT with other women in the community Protect the Women, children and the youth from abuses, violence and refer to the right service deliver on time, especially during the crisis times like covid-19,Economic crisis. · Protect the rights of the women, children and youth by obtaining the legal documents like birth certificate, marriage certificate of the parents. Gender Equality – Regular Meetings With Survivers

Gender Equality – Regular meetings conducted with women survivors and girls. Even though several NGOs are working for women’s rights and needs, still women, girls, and children face violence in many ways. Every day, we all get to know the violence that occurs for vulnerable people through news, social media, and other communication channels. The Covid-19 pandemic worse the situation, and our team also experienced the number of survivors who are seeking assistance from us is significantly increased. When we started, we only assisted few women and girls survivors. Now we have begun helping violence against children, school students as well. Our experienced team members holding discussions with the survivors and referring to the relevant author ties for further assistance like Legal aid commission, lawyers, Women center, police GBV desk, etc.

Mobile Service to provide Basic legal documents to Women and Children to get their rights  held on 24.11.2022 at Eravurpatru DS division

Outcome of the event Event held on 24th of November 2022 at Eravurpatru DS division, Additional Director of Registrar, Marriage Registrar Development officers, Grama Niladhari and other stakeholders took part of the event. Quote from Additional Director of Registrar Eravur Patru: “This kind of Mobile services are the means of connectivity between service providers and the community in need. The immediate impact of the above said mobile service is to provide 05 Marriage registrations and 08 application filed for birth certificates or search registers very successful and satisfactory. This initiations are very useful for making confidence on government service delivery”.

Gender Equality – Discussions with Government Agent

Gender Equality – Discussions with Government agent is being done to launch a hotline for women survivors, girls, and children. Gender equality is a fundamental human right. Recent emerging reports show the Covid -19 pandemic increases violence against women, girls, and children even though there is progress in the decades. With lockdown measures in place, many women are trapped at home with their abusers, struggling to access services that suffer from cuts and restrictions. Emerging data shows that, since the pandemic outbreak, violence against women and girls and particularly domestic violence, has intensified. To react and handle the situation since the women, children, and girls are trapped at home, our team decided to launch a hotline by collaborating with the Covid-19 taskforce in the district secretariat, successfully progressing Batticaloa district for future sustainability and for further assistance. We expect to launch the hotline at the end of March 2021 and planned advocacy for the launch.
