Focus group discussion with women survivors

As a prior goal of the young women team is to end all forms of violence against women, girls and children. As one strategy of that, the team has been organized focus group discussions with women survivors with the age group from 18 to 50 in the DS divisions of Manmunai North(Villages: Nochimunai, Kallady Thiruchendur, Navarkudah) Manmunai West (Villages: Mahilavettuvan, Naripulthottam, Katkudah, Aythiyamalai, Vavunatheevu) Eravurpattru (Villages: Illupadichenai, Vepavettuvan, Paalarchenai, Periyasavukady, Sinnasavukady, Sivapuram, Yhapparkiramam) respectively. General outputs from the village women and girls from the above DS divisions Domestic violence and gender-based violence School drop outs (MN,Eravurpatru) School children addicted to Alcohol, Smoking, and other drugs (Eravurpatru, MN) Early marriages and early childbearing (Eravurpatru) Multiple marriages Parents migrated and children are left insecure with grant parents. Microcredit issues in Eravurpatru Lack of transportation facility (Eravurpatru,MW) Child labours (Eravurpatru and Manmunai North) Land registration /ownership issues in some villages of Eravurpatru Root causes discussed Poverty Lack of awareness of the importance of education, especially to the parents Alcohol, Smoking and drug addiction in younger ages/lack of awareness Lack of awareness on reporting the issues to the right government authorities  Fear to bring out the violence due to cultural and patriarchal norms No platform offered for youngsters, women to discuss the problems/ they are  not involved in decision making The family burden is on women, girls Land issues(ex: 6 perches land is not enough to start any livelihood activities ) Transportation issues in resettled areas Migration As a way forward, our team will give awareness, link up them with government authorities through district secretariat (through discussions), and follow up with the authorities.

Gender Equality Advocacy took place for the hotline launched

Advocacy has taken place for the hotline launched by us to end all forms of violence against women, girls, and children, especially to save them during this uncertain time of Covid-19, Vavunatheevu – 05/08/2021 Vahaneri on 06/08/2021 Eravur Patru and Kaluwanchikudy on 14/08/2021 The hotline number is +94 705506600 We have disbursed leaflets with a brief explanation on how the hotline system works, How they want to dial reach us How we will handle the cases and make a bridge between the survivors and mandatory authorities. We have also put manners on the District secretariat office, other public places on how the hotline works.

Hotline launched to protect the Women and Children during the pandemic

Since there has been a sudden upraise in the spreading and severity of Covid -19 Virus in the district of Batticaloa, this activity was taken forward by CIRCLE –Wing of Young Feminist Team along with the district secretariat during this uncertainty troubling times to ensure the wellbeing and to protect the women who are the backbones of the function of this nation and the children who are precious and going to carry the future. The hotline number is +94 705506600 (The hotline will be in used /or active 10 am to 2 pm from Monday to Wednesday every week) The agents of the network are well-experienced team members of the organization and confidentiality will be ensured 100% of the caller. The follow-up of the issues will be addressed to the relevant authorities, related women organizations, groups working for women and children’s rights, and the team will be followed up and work with the referrals until the solution met for the problems addressed. CIRCLE –Wing of Young Feminist Team has collaborated with Suyam – Movement for social change in Trincomalee district, Affected Women’s Forum in Ampara to provide this service to Eastern province.

CIRCLE’s performance in VRIDHI festival

VRIDHI is the platform for CSO’s created by UNOPS for the networking collaboration and support between the civil society community of Srilanka. VRIDHI aims to create a platform via which inter – civil society connection can be formed and nurtured based on geographical location, areas of interest of work and other shared values. VRIDHI festival organized by UNOPS team held on 29th and 30 of July in Batticaloa for the Eastern civil society organizations ,CIRCLE took a part of the panel discussion on the topic of “Women in Leadership” and we were also able to introduce our 10 emerging young women entrepreneurs of Mahalavattavan ,Manmunaiwest to start up their business activities of selling organic products with the VRIDHI platform. A business plan training for 50 women headed households

A business plan training being conducted for 50 women headed households who are marked them as emerging entreprenures of Koralaipattucentral,Eravurpattu and Manmunaiwest DS divisions.Training conducted as a roll out session by the beneficiaires who have already received the training from CIRCLE in 2022.The overall objective of the training is to support the emerging women entreprenuers to do their business in a systamatic way with record keeping ,financial forecast and followup.At the end of the training the participants developed businessplan for their each entreprises. The 03 days training conducted on 23rd,24th and 25th of August 2023 with how to do the SWOT analysis of the business enviornment . Awareness sessions and interactions between Muslim women group and Tamil Women groups inorder to create peacebuilding through socialcohesion

As another key objective creating social cohesion among the communities the first awareness and interaction session took place for the 50 selected beneficiaries with the 02 ehtnicity This session being conducted with the support of the UNOPS SDG grant and the session acheived the following results, Feedback from the partcipants , Kavitha (Eravurpattu ) ” We have learned the threshold of poorest families, poor families and the middle families and how to uplift the poorest families to poor families and the mechanism of interact with middle families ,from the motivational video clips played during the sessions we all partcipants got the courage to enhance their families by economically and how to commit our self to uplift the other families to develop the community to next level. Advocacy process initiated by CIRCLE’s youth wing in 3 DS divisions of Batticaloa

The process of identfiying the issues in the community and initiating advocacy for burining issues have been addressing by the CIRCLE’s young women leaders and youth in Koralaipattucentral,Eravurpattu and Manmunaiwest DS divisions sucesfully.Our women and youth members received several training on attending and handling the community level issues. So far we have adresses School drpouts,awarness and actions for drugs supply and consumprion especially among youth,early child marriages ,human elephant conflict ,preventing the migration of young mothers and linking them up with manadtory service providers for alternative solutions. Sucessfully we have rejoined 25 school droputs after a movement and awarness done by us along with the relevant stakeholsders of Eravurpattu DS division on 22nd of November 2023. We have been provideing continues support to equiping and capacitationg the team for the sustainability of the advocacy process.

Women and Youth Networks were established and strengthened in 03 DS divisions in Batticaloa by CIRCLE

03 Women and youth networks were established and strengthened by CIRCLE in Eravurpattu,Manmiunaiwest and Koralaipattu Central.03 networks are successful and functioning with the support of CIRCLE, continuously the team resolving the identified issues in the community aligning with the mandatory service providers. So far the network addressed the issues of School dropouts , Drugs consumption ,Human Elephant conflict and the consequences, illegal or non protection migration ,early marriages . CIRCLE organized and conducted a panel discussion with the advocacy steering group members of the networks and mandatory service providers like Women development officers ,child protection officers, counselors, Youth service officers, Child right promotion officers ,representatives of the NGO secretariat to ensure the continuous effective function of the networks established by CIRCLE . “Gender equality in and through sports ” CIRCLE’s VAW day event on 25 th of November 2023

CIRCLE has marked the VAW day event on 25th of November 2023 at Koralaipattu DS division with Marginalized Women headed households from Muslim and Tamil community and with women Youth Kabaddi teams of Koralaipattu and Eravurpattu DS divisions in order to create awareness on end the violence against women and girls and to promote one of the indigenous sports Women Kabaddi which is currently abandoning in the country . The secondary objective of the event is to strengthen the youth clubs and let boys and girls  involve in the process of eliminate the violence against women and children and make them realize the importance of this and responsibility over it as a future leaders of the country  Women Kabadi teams happily took part of the event and requested CIRCLE to provide continues support to strengthen the women Kabadi teams in Batticaloa, challenges also were discussed in the platform.
